Our Team
This project is led by an international co-laboratory of researchers, united by a shared interest in modern well-being technologies.

Principal Chief Scientist,
All things Janitorial
Vaughn is tenured in Human Systems Engineering at Arizona State University. With expertise in evolutionary psychology, social behavior, and cognitive science, he has published widely on how ancient motivational systems affect our cognitive and emotional processing in both basic and applied settings. He is not as cool as the rest of the team but still rides their coat-tails shamelessly. May have an alter ego.

Andrea Maria Knotter Etxezarreta, MSc
Chief Ethnographic Officer
Andrea has a MSc in Social and Cultural Anthropology (VU Amsterdam) and another one in Political Science (Erasmus University). She specialized in social justice and development, with extensive fieldwork in both Europe and South America (University of Amsterdam, University of Copenhagen), and probably some kingdom of faeries and witches. She is also an experienced yoga instructor and facilitator.

Chief Technical Officer, Aztec Death Whistle
Jake is part of ASU’s College of Health Solutions and a veritable polymath with a seemingly unending array of knowledge, skills, and abilities. Expertly blends his training in cognitive psychology with Moog synthesis and dairy farming, he handles hard to solve signal processing problems and drives the getaway car. Team member most likely to engage in international espionage.

Chief Financial Officer (just kidding, we have no money)
Marco is both a mathematical biologist and not at all a member of a secret society of dervishes who possess keys to immortality. He also does agent based modeling and plays multiple instruments, some of which are musical, and will tell you about Buddhism and quantum mechanics unless you run away quickly. Handles the team’s ceremonial tea needs.

Project Lead, Yoga Nidra, YTT outcomes
Sophia is a PhD student in the Department of Psychology at Arizona State University where she primarily focuses on perception-action, perceptual illusions, and balance abilities.

Project Lead, Global Surveys
Kam is a Social Psychology PhD student at Arizona State University studying future-oriented thinking, sustainability, and the evolutionary psychological perspective. Tie dyes with a skill that suggests a fourth color cone and synesthesia.

Plausibly deniable chief executive EEG officer (CEEEGO)
Emily is a Human Systems Engineering PhD student at Arizona State University, where she is interested in how cognitive processes, particularly attention, translate from controlled laboratory settings to real-world environments.

ZERØBPM project lead
Runa is currently studying Health Promotion and Behaviour Change (MSc Psychology) at the University of Amsterdam, where she specializes in stress and addiction management. She graduated Cum Laude from Maastricht University with a BA in Liberal Arts and Sciences, building a strong foundation in holistic mental and physical health.

Project Lead, Spectral Neuromodulation
Dani is a PhD student in Biological Design at Arizona State University and leads the lab’s work on light-induced neuromodulation and entrainment. Dani spent nearly two decades in aerospace delivering tightly verified systems in regulated environments.

Bailey Buchanan
Project lead, Binaural Beats
Bailey is a Masters student in Human Systems Engineering interested in how the head works and why people do stuff. Since much of what we do at Trance Tech involves sound and the human head, she focusses on splitting this in half and evaluating the asymmetry. We cannot reveal too much about this but stay tuned….
